I've been "binge" reading your blog this afternoon while my husband watched Italy lose to Ireland in the Rugby. Very interesting to read another Bay Area emigre's view of life in Italy! I'm a native Californian who lived in Berkeley for 10 years (on the Oakland border). I first lived in Italy in '87-89 in L'Aquila. Since then I've lived in Rome and various places in Piemonte as well as a few other countries but settled in France/Monaco about 12 years ago. We are now retiring and I suppose will stay in France but our hearts very often reside across the border.
